To Mike

Hello,

You might have heard me mention Mike one or two times.

Mike and I have been best friends for nearly eight years. We have seen each other through thick and thin, and despite not always being together, we have loved each other every day for these past years. For me there is no one else who can put with me. I am very difficult, I’m extremely emotional, and above all else, I am bloody stubborn. But he gets all that, and he loves me.

When I fell pregnant, it was him I thought of, because I knew there was a chance that he would walk away from me. But he didn’t, he has supported me and made me the person I am now. I couldn’t be where I am now without him. Above all else, Jake would t be the person he is if it wasn’t for Mike. They are best friends and thick as thieves. He is an amazing father and he loves Jake as much as I do.

To be honest, there isn’t enough I can say that would come close to really explaining everything. He’s everything I’ve ever wanted and the best I’ll ever get.

I love you.

Wedding bells

Hello,

This week has been slightly mad because there is a rather large and exciting event taking place this Saturday. My dad is getting married. I am so excited for him, and I am so looking forward to seeing Mike in a suit 😉 I even got Jake a cute waist coat!

Recently, a lot of people have been getting engaged and married. It’s so nice to see people so in love, at the same time slightly daunting to realise that we are now of an age where getting married isn’t considered young and stupid. Not only this, but people are beginning families or adding to their families. All natural. I’ll be honest, I’ve been busting Mike’s chops about giving Jake a brother or a sister. However, since our circumstances have changed, I’ve been spending a lot of time with Jake and have made a startling discovery. He does not get easier with age. If anything, he now resembles Stich from the Disney film, you know when he first gets to earth and keeps destroying everything? I take Jake to the shops, and I’ve found myself becoming one of those mothers who constantly looks exasperated because their sweet little boy is touching EVERYTHING IN THE BLOODY SHOP. This is not okay. I don’t like it. And I thought gosh, can you imagine juggling that little bugger with a new born baby? Of course, some people can and hats off to you my friend, but my God Jake is just such a pain in the butt. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still stupidly broody, but I agree with Mike that we can wait.

Besides, we will be moving soon to somewhere where the rent is cheaper. House hunting with Mike was amazing. We’ve been together on and off for nearly 8 years and we’ve never house hunted! It’s nice because we want the same things. But it got us excited because with moving to somewhere cheaper, we can start saving to buy! I never wanted to buy, I never wanted to live with Mike. In fact, just before uni ended, I true to convince him that it would make more sense for us to rent places next door to each other and live like that. Much nicer and less mess. And now I’m excited about buying! Crazy stuff right?

With all this, it has made me look at marriage differently. Everyone gets excited about the wedding, which is quite rightly exciting. However, if I had it my own way? I’d be on a beach in the middle of nowhere with Mike. Because to me that’s all that matters. It’s him. I get that’s its nice for your family and friends to be involved, but you’re not marrying them. Besides, as we both come from divorced families, it’s hard to sometimes take the idea of it all seriously. But one day hopefully, he’ll ask me. And if not? That’s okay too. Because at the end of the day, I have him. And we are already a family unit. We already have something so amazing, that being married wouldn’t change it.

Anyway, enough going on. We forgot to put Jake in a nappy last night and he didn’t wet the bed! He’s also had no accidents for three weeks! I mean like peeing and pooing accidents, not physical. Obviously. He’s growing up! My mum spoke to him on the phone this morning and understood everything he said. This is good news because a lot of people still look at me like I’m nuts when I say I get exactly what he’s said to me.

Right, best get going. Hope the weather is nicer than it is here. I don’t want to repeat what everyone else is saying but… Think the summer has been and gone.
